Dermatopathology in the digital age

Places limited to 50 participants
Friday, 9 October, 2015

Following its previous success in Istanbul and Amsterdam, a new clinico-pathological course using virtual dermatopathology will be held during the Congress in Copenhagen. This interesting technology allows participants to use their own laptops as microscopes to view digitally scanned histopathological slides. The online software enables changes from low to higher power, as well as rotating sections 360 degrees.

The course begins with a review of 20 intriguing cases online. The participants will have internet access to clinical information, clinical photographs and digital histopathological slides relevant to each case, as well as multiple-choice questions through the software. Once the questions have been answered and submitted, brief lectures will be given by the faculty on the key features of the cases. The participants will receive hand-outs in pdf format, with the correct answers to the questions, discussion about the cases and references.

This course will give the participants hands-on experience in the use of virtual dermatopathology (VDP) in clinico-pathologic correlation and examinations. This experience can be applied in online consultations, CME/CPD, resident education and certification examinations where VDP is used.

The faculty includes an international team of speakers who have considerable experience in VDP and related software:  Ellen Mooney (Chair), Gürkan Kaya (Co-Chair), Ismini Vassilaki (Co-Chair), Christina Mitteldorf and Jacqueline Junkins-Hopkins.

Registered participants will receive an instruction letter by e-mail with a link to the software. Participants must create a username and password enabling them to both, practice using the software and most importantly, obtain online access prior to the course. Participants must also bring their own laptop to the course.
